Mr. James Carlton Burkhalter, Sr.

Mr. James Carlton Burkhalter, Sr., 85, of Adel, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at his residence. He was born January 9, 1927 in Nashville, Georgia to the late Jesse M. Burkhalter and Floy Bell Browning Burkhalter Edwards. Mr. Burkhalter was a retired carpenter and member of the Carpenters Union for many years, was of the Baptist Faith and lived most of his life in Miami, Florida before moving to Cook County 22 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Rainey Burkhalter of Adel; three sons, James Carlton Burkhalter, Jr. of Adel, Timothy Wayne Burkhalter of Adel, and Jeffrey Craig Burkhalter of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Chris Burkhalter, James "Jimmy" C. Burkhalter, Gwen Young and Kimberly Burkhalter, all of Adel; three great-grandchildren, Frances Burkhalter and Steven Burkhalter of Valdosta, and Zachary Burkhalter of Adel; one brother, W.C. Burkhalter of Homerville, Georgia; four sisters, Odessa Moore of Bankston, Alabama, Emma Jean Harpe of Ray City, Geneva Baldree of Atlanta, and Mary Willis of Willacoochee. He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Mark Burkhalter; two daughters, Linda Susan Burkhalter and Patricia "Patty" Burkhalter; and three brothers, Royce Burkhalter, Joseph B. Hartsfield, and Eugene Burkhalter.

A graveside service for Mr. Burkhalter will take place Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2 pm at Fender Cemetery in Lanier County with Rev. Clinton Moore officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 11 am until 1 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel.
